And so as the season is coming to an end my fall team is 6-1 — we’ll see how we do in the playoffs, but it’s been much fun.

Best story of this week was when a player came over at the start of practice and said “COACH! COACH!” and I said “Yes” and he said “Coach, we learned about FUNGUS in school today and got to see it under a Microscope”.

I can remember a time in my life when I would have said “Whatever kid, focus on baseball” Instead I said, “Well that must have been AWESOME!!!” and the kid beamed and ran off.

There’s something to be said for building up enough rapport that kids actually tell you what’s going on in their lives.

Imagine a first practice, and you say HOW WAS SCHOOL, and they say FINE because they just don’t see the point of telling you much of anything. So that kind of tells me that this has been s special season….
