The White Sox looked good today in a 9-4 victory over the O’s on a beautiful Spring afternoon at Hook Road. David Wynne started off with two nice innings on the mound. He shut them down in the first and they only got two in the second. The White Sox jumped on the O’s starter in the first for three with a big hit by Nolan and got three more in the third after a leadoff single by Will, a walk by Chirstopher and another walk to David Riddle.
The White Sox added two more in the top of the third and Wesley came on in relief. He held the O’s to only two runs despite starting off with three walks. He struck out the side to end the inning.
As the sun began to set the coaches agreed the fourth would be the final inning. The White Sox padded their lead with a run as David Riddle got a key hit and Nolan got his second hit of the day. Nolan came on to finish out the game — setting the O’s down in a mere four batters.
Coach Grossman (again available to this reporter only briefly after the game due to his extensive coaching schedule) looked into the sunset and said “Our guys clearly looked good today — I think the long layoff may have had something to do with our bats — but I think they’ll come alive on Saturday. In the field we still have a long way to go — I noticed some outfielders picking at the grass today. Overall, I thought everyone did their best — David, Wesley, and Nolan looked good at the mound and I started seeing hitters showing some confidence at the plate.”
The White Sox have a practice this Friday at Fox Mill Elementary and face the Diamondbacks at 1:00 on Saturday.
