Dateline: Fox Mill 1

The Reds returned home to Fox Mill after a big win over the White Sox. However, it just wasn’t such a great day for the Reds. Jack started on the mound and after a leadoff walk, got the next batter to ground out back to him. With one out he ran into some control problems and on a few walks and wild pitches, the Tigers had a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, the Reds fought back on leadoff walk to Juan who stole second. Ian walked and Mason hit a smash to right to score Juan. Ben walked with the bases loaded to score Ian and after one it was 4-2 Tigers.

Garrett came on in the second and did a nice job with three strikeouts. A couple of errors on ground balls and some misplaced throws resulted in two runs. The Reds went down quietly and it was 6-2 after two. In the third, Garrett struck out the leadoff hitter and got the third hitter to ground out back to him at first. With two outs, he faced the heart of the order. A long double scored a run and Ben came on in relief. In the bottom of the third, Mason singled, Alec singled and Jack singled to score Mason. Unfortunately, the Res couldn’t take advantage of all the base runners and only scored one in the inning. After three it was a 10-3 game.

Things didn’t improve much in the fourth. The Tigers bats were still alive despite many great pitches from Ben. Several fielding errors ensued and the Tigers had four more. The Reds didn’t quit as Michael led off with a walk. Juan walked and Nick walked. With the bases loaded Ian walked to score Michael. Mason grounded out but Juan scored and Nick scored on a wild pitch. After four it was 14-6. Mason came on in the fourth and the Reds tough day continued with four more Tiger runs. The Reds bats were quiet and the game ended Tigers 18 Reds 6.

Coach Grossman was busy planning major celebrations for mother’s day but agreed to a brief interview “I really am proud of our guys for doing their best all game. We had a lot of opportunities. We loaded the bases three times and really didn’t capitalize. I think a day off for mother’s day will do us some good and we’ll be ready to go on Tuesday. Coach Goldstein said, “It was a tough game, but we’ll be ready next week.”
