Datelines: FC Blue
The O’s jumped on the Pirates starter with four quick runs. Scott and Krish led off with a walks. Frankie singled to score Scott. Adam singled to score Krish and Tripp came up with a big two out single to score Adam and Frankie. Bottom of the first and the Pirates went down without scoring. The second inning was quiet as well and after two it was 4-0 O’s. Top of the third and O’s went down in order. Bottom of the third and the Pirates got a couple of walks and weak hits and scored four runs.After three it was O’s 4 Pirates 4.
Top of the fourth and Michael reached first after being hit by a pitch. Tripp walked, Sol walked and Cid was hit by a pitch to score Michael. That brought up the top of the order but unfortunately the Pirates pitcher settled own and got two strikeouts and then managed to get Frankie to ground out back to the mound. After four it was O’s 5 Pirates 5.
Top of the 5th and the O’s picked up some key insurance runs. Colin led off with an in the park home run. Michael and Tripp walked. Sol singled to load the bases. Cid walked to pick up an RBI as Michael scored. Scott walked to score Tripp. The Pirates closer settled down and struck out the next two batters. Bottom of the fifth and the leadoff man reached on an infield error. A walk put runners on at first and second. The next batter struck out. After that some walks led to a few runs. Final Score Pirates 9 O’s 8. Coach Grossman was not at the game but we were able to reach him during his scouting trip as he continues to look for new talent for Reston Little League. He said, “Well it sounds like a tough loss, but our guys are improving every game. I’m sure we’ll be fine for our game on Saturday. It wouldn’t surprise me if we win that one by a run.”
