This drill teaches pitchers to activate large back muscles by bending deeply through their throwing motion.

Equipment: bucket of balls

1. Have each pitcher start with no ball and go through their mechanics, finishing the throw.

2. At the end of the throw, have them pick something up off the ground.

3. Place a ball on the ground for them to pick up — or in the fall, a big leaf works great.

4. Position it so the player has to take a decent stride and really bend their back during the throw.

Do lots of reps of this — you want to get to 900 to build muscle memory. You can interleave this with the superman drill to mix things up and keep it fun.
