Dateline: Fox Mill 2

On a humid evening, the Indians played the final game against the Cardinals. Brendan started on the mound and threw heat. The first batter grounded out to Nikhil at second who threw to Will at first for out one. The next batter struck out and after a single and a walk, Brendan induced a weak ground out back to the mound for out three. Breendan led off with a single, but Indians bats were quiet for the rest of the inning. After one it was 0-0.

In the second, Brendan was dominant. The first batter tapped a ball right in front of the plate. Christian T picked it up and fired to Will at first for out one. The next two batters struck out. Indians bats were again queit in the second and after two it was all tied up at 0-0.

In the third, the Inidans got on the board with a couple of walks and three hits to score four runs. The Indians battled back and after Nicholas walked, he moved to second on a wild pitch and then went to third on a another wild pitch. A groundout to first by Pedro was a key RBI to score Nicholas. After three it was 4-1 Cards.

In the fourth, Charles came on and gave up a run on a couple of singles and wild pitches. He settled down to strike out the side. The Indians stayed right in it with a single by Charles, a long double by Christian to put runners on second and third. Will grounded out to second to score Charles. Connor then launched a long double to score Christian. After four it was Cards 5 Indians 3. But Indians fans were still very excited since the Indians have come back many times.

In the fifth, Will came on and the Indians ace closer looked sharp. He got the first batter to ground out to second where Charles made a nice play as he threw to Christian T. at first for out one. He struck out the next batter and got hte last batter to ground out to Charles again. Three up and three down. Chad led off the Indians fifth with a walk. Christian V. bunted perfectly and beat out the throw to put runners on first and second. Bryon executed a perfect bunt and beat out the throw to load the bases. Nicholas popped out to short for out one. Pedro grounded out to the mound but the throw went to first for out two and Chad sped home and scored. A wild pitch scored Christian V. and suddenly it was a tie game. The Cardinals pitcher settled down and got out three, but we went to the sixth all tied at 5.

And so the tournament came down to the final inning. Will made quick work of the Cards with two quick strikeouts and the last batter grounded out to second where Brendan made a nice play and threw to Christian T. at first for out three. Indians fans rejoiced. They needed only one run to win the game. Brendan beat out an infield hit to get to first with no outs. A walk to Christian T put runners on first and second with one out. After a popout to the mound there were two outs. Connor strolled calmly to the plate. He took a fastball over the outside corner for strike one. The next pitch was an inside fastball. Connor turned on it and drove it deep to the outfield. Brendan came around third at high speed and scored the winning run as the ball was being retrieved by the outfielders. Indians fans rejoiced. Final Score: Indians 6 Cardinals 5. AAA 2007 Reston World Series Winner: Indians.

Coach Goldstein said, “I knew these kids could do it. That never-say-die attitude…and of course one of my catchng crew, Connor, with the walk-off single to left. What a way to end the game!”. Coach Grossman said, “What a great way to end the season! I knew our guys had potential all season and they really came together during the tournament. It has been a pleasure working with this team. I hope our guys all have a great summer and I’d be thrilled to coach any one of them again.”
