Dateline: Browns Chapel

On a warm spring evening the Indians continued their road trip against the Twins. Brendan led off with a walk. Bryon walked and Christian T. singled to score Brendan. Will doubled to score Bryon and Christian T. and Charles singled to score Will. In the bottom half of the inning, the Brendan threw blistering heat and got the first hitter line out to Bryon at short who made a fantastic stab to his left. A ground out back to the mound and a strikeout ended the Twins first inning. After one, the Indians were suddenly off to an oustanding 4-0 start.

The Indians picked up another run in the second on a two out single by Pedro, a walk to Brendan and Pedro stole third and scored on an overthrow to third. In the bottom of the second, a few walks and a double led to four Twins runs. After two it was Indians 5 Twins 4.

In the third, the Indians continued their offensive barrage with a leadoff single by Christian T., a single by Will and a huge double by Charles that scored Christian T. and Will. Connor hit a shot to right to score Charles. Christian V., Nicholas, and Chad walked to score Connor. Nicholas came on in the third and got the first batter to ground out. The next batter walked and foolishly tried to steal off of Connor’s cannon arm behind the plate. Connor threw a perfect strike to Christian T. at short who deftly applied the tag for out two. Two walks and a double led to two runs but when the hitter tried to stretch it to third, Christian V. in left fired to Pedro at short who deftly applied the tag. After three it was Indians 9 Twins 6.

In the top of the fourth, Indians bats were silent. Bryon came on to pitch the bottom of the fourth and he walked two and then gave up three singles to score two runs. He settled down to strike out the last batter and got the leadoff man to harmlessly ground out back to the mound. After four it was Indians 9 Twins 8.

In the top of the fifth the Indians picked up some key insurance runs. Bryon single and stole second. Christian walked. A wild pitch put runners on third and second and Charles delivered a clutch two RBI single to score Christian T. and Will. He stole second but was gunned down trying to steal third. In the bottom of the fifth Will came on and threw good strikes but unfortunately the Twins ended up with a two singles, a double, and a single and a double to quickly score four runs. Suddenly it was Twins 12 Indians 11 and the Indians were behind for the first time all day.

In the top of the sixth, the Indians had to score at least one to force a bottom of the sixth. Christian V. led off with a walk. Chad walked to put runners on at first and second. Jesus was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Pedro walked to score Christian V with the tying run. Will came on as darkness was falling and looked dominant as he struck out the side. The umps declared it a tie at 12 all due to darkness.

Coach Grossman, said, “Its great to be back –sure we’d love a win, but these Twins are a good ballclub and I’m glad to put our losing streak to an end. I have to say I’m not known for predicting the future, but I think we are going to go out there and beat the White Sox by two runs on Wednesday. Coach Goldstein said, “I saw some more improvement at the plate today so I think we’ll be fine on Wednesday as well.”
