Dateline: Fox Mill 1

On a perfect Spring evening, Brendan went to the mound and struck out the first three batters he faced 1-2-3. It was a fantatic way to start the game. In the bottom of the first, the Indians got on the board with leadoff walks to Brendan, Bryon, and Christian T. Charles walked to score Brendan. With two outs, Christian was hit by a pitch and Bryon scored. Nicholas walked to score Christian T. and Chad walked for an RBI to score Charles. After one it was Indians 4 Cubs 0.

In the top of the second, Brendan gave up two walks and the runner on second moved to third on a wild pitch. With runners on first and third and no out the next batter hit a sharp grounder back to the mound. Brendan scooped it up and the runner on third broke for home. Brendan fired to Christian T. at the plate who made a nice tag for out one. Brendan settled down to strike out the next two hitters. In the bottom of the second, Nikhil singled to lead off the inning. Pedro walked and Brendan was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bryon Grounded out to the pitcher to score Nikhil. After two it was Indians 5 Cubs 0.

In the third Charles came on and looked great. He struck out two and gave up only one hit. In the bottom of the third, Charles and Connor led off with walks. Christian V. blasted a sharp infield single to left to score Charles. A wild throw back to the mound scored scored Connor. Chad walked and Nikhil picked up his second hit on the day with a sharp single to center to score Christian V. Another bad throw back to the mound resulted in a Chad scoring. After three it was Indians 9 Cubs 0.

Charles stayed on the mound in the fourth and continued his excellent outing. He picked up three more strikeouts to quickly end the Cubs half of the inning. Brendan smashed a long double to left in the bottom of the fourth, but the Cubs closer ended the inning. In the top of the fifrth, Bryon came on and threw heat as he struck out two and got the last batter on a chopped to the mound. Bryon dived and came up on his knees and flipped to Will at first for out three. In the bottom of the fifth, the Cubs picked up some extra runs with a sharp single to center by Christian T, a long double to right by Will to score Christian T. Connor continued the hitting barrage with a smash to left to score Will. After five it was Indians 11 Cubs 0.

Bryon went to the mound in the sixth. He got the first batter to popup back to the mound. After a single he walked two batters to make it exciting. With the shutout on the line and the bases loaded he settled down to strike out the last batter to end the game at Indians 11 Cubs 0.

Coach Grossman was starting preparations for the Tigers on Wednesday but did have time for a brief interview. He said, “Well, I know we’ve got a good team and it was only a matter of time until our bats came alive. Almost everyone made some contact today and I’m sure our bats will keep improving. I was very pleased with our pitchers: Brendan , Charles and Bryon. We clearly have some good depth on the mound and that’s only going to help us as the season progresses. I’m looking forward to next week.”
