Dateline: Fox Mill 1

The Reston Royals took the field against the Diamondbacks for the second game of their three game set. The Royals had one the first, so the D-backs were looking to avenge that game. Matt started on the mound and looked sharp. He got two quick strikeouts, but unfortunately, four errors resulted in three runs for the D-backs. Eric led off the Royals first with a single. Matt walked and Eric walked to load the bases. Eric scored on a wild pitch. Matt was then picked off at third and unfortunately Alec was thrown out at second while trying to steal second.

Matt started the second by getting a nice groundout to short where Eric made a nice play as he fired to Cam at first for out one. A single, an error and a walk and a couple more hits resulted in seven more Diamondback runs. Alec came in with one out and shut down the inning with a strikeout and another nice groundout to Eric at short. Cam led off the Royals second with a walk and Spenser hit a line drive to center that was caught for out one. Nick then lined out to third and the Royals again went down quietly. After two it was 10-1 Diamondbacks.

Alec pitched the third and had a great inning. The first batter grounded out back to the mound. Two more strikeouts with a lone single in the middle resulted in a nice scoreless inning for the Diamondbacks. The Royals never gave up and in the third Jordyn led off with a walk. Ryan executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Jordyn to second. Eric picked up a big RBI with a single to left to score Jordyn. Matt singled to right. A couple of wild pitches later, Eric and then Matt scored. After three it was suddenly Diamondbacks 10 Royals 4.

Jake came on in the fourth and threw heat. The first batter struck out, the next batter was safe on an error and the next batter grounded out to third where Nick made a nice play as he threw to Spenser at first for out two. An error and two singles resulted in three more runs. Jake settled down and got the last batter to ground out to Nihal who made a nice play as he tossed to Spenser for out three. Royals bats were quiet in the fourth, so after four it was D-backs 13 Royals 4.

Eric came on in the fifth and was untouchable. He quickly struck out three batters in a row. The Royals kept battling. Jake walked, Jordyn grounded into a force at second for out one. Ryan beat out an infield hit and Danny popped out to second. Eric drilled a long triple to score Jordyn and Ryan. Matt singled to score Eric. After five it was D-backs 13 Royals 7. Eric again went out and struck out three more batters. The Royals went down with two strikeouts and then a line shot by Spenser that was unfortunately caught by the third baseman.

Coach Goldstein said, “Well, its tough to lose to the Diamondbacks, but they are a good team. I’ll look forward to playing them one more time. ” Coach Grossman reached on one of his final scouting trips of the season said, “Looking at the book it says we made seven errors. It awfully tough to win a game when you make that many mistakes. We’ve got two practices booked this week so we should be able to spend some time on defense and get that number way down for next week.”
