Dateline: FC2
On a chilly fall evening, the Cardinals hosted the Nationals. Curtis started on the mound and swiftly struck out the side. Coach Grossman juggled the lineup and Nima responded as the leadoff hitter with a hard single to center. Jack followed with a shot to third that the Nats made a nice play on for out one. Curtis singled and the runners moved to third and second on a wild pitch. Kian singled and two runs scored. Cards fans rejoiced. After one it was Cards 2 Nats 0.
In the second, the Nats hit a couple of soft tosses and ended up with two runs. Unfazed, the Cards responded with four of their own. Matthew singled, Isaac singled and Christopher singled to load the bases. Michael singled to score Matthew. Nima singled to score Isaac and Jack hit a hard shot to short to score Michael and Nima. After two it was Cards 6 Nats 2.
Matthew came on to quickly strike out the side in the top of the third. The Cards threatened as Curtis grounded out to deep short. Willie singled, but it was not to be. After three it was still Cards 6 Nats 2. The Nats picked up a couple of runs in the top of the fourth as the leadoff batters each got an infield hit after the soft toss as done. Matthew struck out two. Unfortunately, with runners on third and second, the Cards turned a ground ball into a festival and two runs scored. In the bottom of the fourth, Isaac singled, Christopher singled. A wild pitch, put runners on at second and third. A groundout to short scored Isaac. Nima singled to score Christopher and Jack singled to score Nima. Jack moved to second on the throw and a wild pitch moved him to third. Curtis grounded out to end the inning but the score was now Cards 9 Nats 4.
Willie came on in the fifth and gave up two hits. He settled down and struck out the next three batters to end the game.
Coach Grossman was available briefly, “Well, we certainly had a much better day today then last Saturday. I think we can work on our team defense this Wed and Friday and we’ll be ready for the Blue Jays next Saturday.”
