Dateline: Ring Road
A cloudy morning turned into a most pleasant fall afternoon as the Brewers took the field against the Cardinals. After a couple of weak singles, the next batter hit a sharp grounder to Mitchell on the mound who made a great play and fired to Ian at first for out one. Later in the inning, Ian handled a hard smash to first and easily stepped on the bag. Brewers fans celebrated! In the bottom of the first Isaac led off with a ground ball to second but he was out by half a step at first. Jacob beat out an infield single to third. Matthew smashed a ball off the machine to short. Mert beat out an infield single. With the bases loaded, Michael beat an infield hit to score Jacob. Mitchell hit a hard shot to left off the machine to score Matthew. Olivia beat out and infield hit to score Michael. Arvind hit a screaming line drive up the middle off the machine to easily score Michael. Only one out and all four runs had scored.
In the second, Arvind made a great play on a ground ball back to the mound and he threw to Matthew for an out. Also in the inning, Jacob made a nice heads up throw to first, Arvind made a great throw to first that just missed being an out. In the bottom of the second, Elizabeth led off with a shot back to the mound and was safe at first. Ian hit a long shot to right off the machine for a clean double. With runners at third and second, Isaac beat out an infield hit to score Elizabeth. Jacob hit a hard shot to third to score Ian. Matthew grounded into a fielders choice at short where Isaac was out at third by just a step but Ian scored easily. Mert hit into a fielders choice at second the Jacob advanced to third. Michael beat out an infield single to score Jacob for his second run on the day. Mitchell picked up another RBI with a hard chopper to third to score Mert.
In the third, the Cardinals got a few infield hits and scored three runs before their coach pulled them off the field as he was concerned about time limitations. In the bottom of the third, the Brewers led off with a hard shot to short by Olivia. Arvind followed with a smash down the left field line and Elizabeth beat out an infield hit off the machine to load the bases. Ian beat out an infield hit to score Olivia. Jacob picked up a nice RBI on a hard grounder to third that he beat out for a hit and an RBI as Arvind scored. Matthew got a solid hit to score Elizabeth and Mert followed with a nice grounder back to the mound which he beat out for a hit to score Ian.
Coach Grossman said, “Our defense is coming along. We picked up three more outs today but I think we can improve it quite a bit in these next two weeks. We are starting to get much better at making the basic play, but we clearly need work on what to do when we have the ball in hand. We’ll work on that this week and we’ll be ready to go next week. Coach Goldstein said, “Well, anytime you can score twelve runs it shows the offense is certainly progressing.”
