What a great LL World Championship game. It may have ended 12-2, but it was a complete war for 4 innings. Curacao closed it out with some hard throwers which suggests they just had more depth on the mound than Nevada. When I coached the all stars I never could have dreamed of taking 14 players. I thought 11 was a lot to balance playing time, etc. Curacao batted 14 so a tribute to their coaches and more important all 14 put the ball in play during this one game. Kudos to them for getting so many kids to hit very good pitching.
So the lessons learned for practice. Well Nevada turned a fantastic double play in the first and they had 3 yesterday so strong fundamentals are at the heart of a double play. Curacao showed resilience when the game was tough. Jumping out to a 2-0 lead certainly gave them confidence but Nevada scored two right back in the bottom of the second.
I thought Nevada was a great team and had nothing to be ashamed of — sometimes you just run into depth on the mound and there’s not much to do. The last two pitchers were hitting 75 on a bunch of pitches. Kudos to Nevada for not just making it this year, but last year as well.
