Dateline: North Point 2
The Ironbirds took the field on a unseasonably warm Saturday morning after taking the field on an unseasonably warm Spring morning. Due to the scheduled absence of Marcus, Mitchell, and Olivia, Michael was called up from the Ironbirds farm system to add much-needed depth.
Matthew led off with a single to the third baseman as he beat the throw easily to first. Scott followed with an infield hit back to the mound. Michael in his T-ball debut smashed an infield hit. Trenton and Zack followed with more infield singles. Finally Isaac concluded the inning with a nice infield hit.
The Ironbirds played some great defense and recorded an out on a grounder back to the mound where he ran to home to force the runner from third. In the Ironbirds next at bat, everyone was safe on an infield single. Defense continued to look good in the bottom of the second. In the top of the third after a few infield hits, Mert drilled a shot that rolled past the shortstop and to the outfield grass. Trenton followed with a nice hit to third.
The umpires called the game due to time constraints and the Ironbirds rejoiced by having a pleasant snack. Coach Grossman said, “I really liked how Michael was able to join the team on short notice and do a great job. Its also fantastic that Coach Goldstein has returned from his scouting trip.”
